Norway Travel Tips

TRAVEL & PHOTOGRAPHY

1.

Summer months are the high season for tourism. Expect more crowds.

3.

Fall is the rainy season, but there is a steep drop-off in tourism.

5.

Western Norway has most of the Fjords and hiking.

7.

Cabins are spaced at a one days hike distance all across the Norwegian countryside.

9.

Trolltungue and Preikstolen both offer a unique hike to a "preachers rock". One is a 10 hour hike while the other is a 4 hour hike.

11.

If you are traveling inland, Jotunheim is a must see.

13.

Looking for unique travel trinkets or gifts? try Bryggen in Bergen.

15.

Most important items to pack: Rain jacket, Rain pants, Hiking boots, Wool under-layer,  Swim wear, Smaller hiking pack, and Wool socks :)

Northern lights are most likely seen during the winter months.

6.

If you need warmer clothes after you arrive, pick up some Devold wool. I purchased some three years ago and I still use it.

8.

A little out of the way in Borgund is an old viking stave church. We were the only ones visiting the church when we dronve through.

10.

Grab a local brew from Ægir Bryggeri in Flåm. This brewery is designed after old Stave churches and has a unique atmosphere to enjoy.

12.

If you are traveling north, Lofoten is a must see. Can be more difficult to visit outside of the high season.

14.

Check out Stranden along the harbor in Oslo for an upscale shopping /eating experience.

16.
